System Restrictions Lifted--Limited Cargo Resumes in IAH
United Cargo is pleased to announce that George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) has reopened and a limited number of flights are operating between IAH and other major U.S. airports. As a result, we have lifted the system-wide product restrictions announced earlier this week and formulated a plan for the resumption of our cargo service to, from and through IAH. Details are below.
First, system-wide restrictions on new bookings of the products below, announced August 28 in Hurricane Update #7, are lifted effective immediately. United Cargo is resuming booking and carriage of these previously-restricted products, provided they are not routed to, from or through IAH:
TrustUA (human remains)
LifeGuard (live human organs)
UASecure (articles of extraordinary value)
Active TempControl shipments
Also, the temporary adjustments to system-wide processes on Passive TempControl and Interline shipments announced in Hurricane Update #7 are also rescinded effective immediately. Thanks for your understanding of the previous adjustments, and please resume normal processes for making bookings and obtaining information on Passive TempControl and Interline shipments.
While flights have resumed in IAH, and those affected by Hurricane Harvey are making heroic efforts to recover as quickly as possible, logistical challenges are expected to remain for an extended period. With that in mind, United Cargo has formulated the following plan for resumption to full operations:
The United Cargo IAH Freight Facility will reopen at 7:00 a.m. on Friday, September 1
From September 1 through September 6, cargo carriage to/from/ through IAH will be limited to non-perishable GEN/EXP shipments on widebody flights to and from U.S. locations only
On September 7-8, cargo carriage to/from/through IAH will be expanded to include non-perishable GEN/EXP on widebody flights from any origin
On September 9-10, cargo carriage to/from/through IAH will be expanded to include all non-perishable shipments (including specialty products) on widebody flights from any origin
Effective September 11, all restrictions will be lifted and United Cargo will transport all non-perishable shipment types on all widebody and narrowbody aircraft to/from/through IAH
While freight restrictions above refer to shipments on specific flight types from specific origins, these restrictions impact the origin of the flight. Arriving shipments themselves may originate from any location.
The IAH Cargo Perishable Center is currently restricted for use by government agencies processing hurricane victim relief shipments. These processes have top priority, so the date we will be able to resume shipping perishable cargo to/from/through IAH is not known.
United Cargo's plan for resumption of carriage of freight on trucks to and from IAH is still pending, as road conditions around the airport are still unstable. We will issue a further update when our road feeder schedule is finalized.
Thank you in advance for your understanding of the limitations in the above plan. We will continue to assess the status of the recovery in IAH, and we will advise you if we are able to resume full and normal operations and service sooner than expected. As always, United Cargo values your support and appreciates your business.
